How to plan your new winter wedding
Ok so there will be a LOT of couples out there who have recently changed the date of their wedding to later this year. We’re so pleased that so far we have managed to accomodate all of our couples with new dates. (Gosh are we going to be busy in Oct and Nov!) If you have changed your date to the autumn or winter in the last week here are the things you really need to think about.
Think About Timings.
This is a major one! If you’ve gone from an August wedding where the sun sets around 8pm to a November wedding where we start losing light around 5pm you really need to think about your timings for the day.
For a wedding October-December we suggest a ceremony time of around midday, so you still have around 2 hours for a drinks reception afterwards. Plenty of time for us to take all the family photos and details inside. If you’re sitting for Speeches at 3pm, there is still enough light within the room for those candid photos. And if you’re lucky enough to get a gorgeous sunset (Some of the autumn sunsets are the best!) then we can take you out around 4/5pm.
Do remember if you’re looking up sunset times the time stated is the time it is pitch black. To get gorgeous evening light we need to take you outside 30-45mins before that time.
Wet Weather Plan
Now you’ve moved your date there is more chance of catching a bit of rain on your big day. Honestly do not panic about this, it never rains ALL day full stop and we are british based wedding photographers, we are very used to it.
Just make sure you have a sufficient back up plan. Umbrellas for bridesmaids, a jacket for you. (remember we will still take you outside for photos so you definitely need to have something to wrap up warm with.) and somewhere for the drinks reception inside that can hold all your guests.
Don’t stress about the weather, you can’t control it. It never worries us, so don’t let it worry you. And if you wake up on your wedding day and it looks like the most gloomy British day, just remember this is the BEST light for us, your skin will look glowing, trust us.
Decor & Colours
Remember outside will look very different to how you planned, the trees will be orange and the flowers for your bouquet may not be in bloom. But just go with it, it’s not what you originally planned but speak to your florist and planners to make sure you get the most out of season. Make new inspo boards in keeping with how your wedding will now look. Remember you still have a gorgeous day no matter what colour the trees are.
Hopefully this has helped you plan your new autumn or winter wedding, we will be releasing new highlights from autumn and winter weddings to help inspire you, but for now take a look at Sam & Ollies November wedding here.
